Tilden Trust.
The Tilden Trust was formed in 1887 to establish a public library in New York City, using the resources of the estate of Samuel J. Tilden. Legal challenges to Tilden's will prevented the Trust from using the resources of the estate until 1892. In 1895 the Tilden Trust was merged with the Astor and Lenox Libraries to form the New York Public Library.
