Donna Rae Danielson was born July 28, 1934 in Nevada, Iowa. Danielson received her B.S. (1957) and M.S. (1961) from Iowa State University in applied art. After graduation, she was advertising manager (1957-1959) for the Utica Clothing Company in Des Moines, Iowa. Danielson then joined the textiles and clothing department faculty at the University of Nebraska (1961-1964). In 1964, she joined the Iowa State University faculty as assistant professor of textiles and clothing. She was promoted to associate professor (1971) and professor (1976). She retired from Iowa State in 1991. Danielson was a member of several professional and scholastic organizations. She was on the executive council of the Nebraska and Iowa Home Economics Associations and was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and Women in Communications. She was also an honorary member of Omicron Nu, Phi Upsilon Omicron, Alpha Lambda Delta, and Delta Phi Delta. Danielson received the Home Economics Centennial Alumni Award (1971) and the Outstanding Teacher Award (1976) from Iowa State University.
