James A. Hall of Reading, VT, graduated from Norwich University with the class of 1839. He later also received an honorary A.M. degree from Norwich in 1842. Following his graduation in 1839, he taught school at South Strafford, VT, and later served as principal of the Unity Scientific and Military Academy in Unity, NH. Hall studied law in Cavendish, VT, and was admitted to the bar in 1843 but never practiced his profession. He practiced land surveying and died in 1845, at age 28.
