The Blountville Circuit of the Holston Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church was established in 1824.

The first circuit rider was sent to the Holston District of the Western Conference in 1783. The Tennessee Conference was set up in 1812. In 1816 the district was split to form the Holston and French Broad districts. The Holston Conference was set up in 1824 with 3 districts: Knoxville, Abingdon and French Broad. Blountville Circuit was in the Abingdon District.
