Sigma Xi is a scientific research society that has more than 500 chapters in the US and abroad at various colleges, universities, labratories, and industry research centers. The society includes members honored for their scientific research achievement or potential. Sigma Xi provides grants annually to researchers and sponsors programs that support ethics in research, science and engineering education, the public understanding of science and international research cooperation. Sigma Xi also publishes the scientific journal American Scientist . The University of Minnesota chapter of Sigma Xi was established May 13, 1896, the 6th chapter of the society.
