Ephraim L. Girdner, Union soldier from Greencastle, Indiana, was born in 1840 and died in 1915. He enlisted in the Union army on 8 August 1862, and was appointed 1st sergeant of the newly organized Company H, 66th Indiana Infantry Regiment. Girdner served with his regiment in Kentucky, Indiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia, the Carolinas, and Virginia. He did duty as a regular soldier, officer, clerk, orderly, and recruiter; he was captured, paroled, exchanged, court-martialed, and later promoted to 1st sergeant, 1st lieutenant, and captain. The 66th Indiana was mustered out of service on 3 June 1865.
