Hide Profile

Illinois physician originally from Frankfurt who resided in St. Clair County near Shiloh.

Adolphus Reuss (1804-1878) born in Frankfort on Main, Germany, was descended from a wealthy Dutch family on his father's side that formerly lived at Amsterdam, Holland. Adolphus Reuss received his medical degree from the University of Goettingen in 1825 and pursued medical studies at Paris and Berlin. He was in private practice in Frankfort until his emigration to America in 1832. He settled in St. Clair county on two hundred acres of wooded land near Shiloh after travels in Ohio, Iowa, Missouri and Illinois. He accumulated considerable property, and at his death owned four hundred and fifty acres of land. In addition to farming his land, he worked hard at his profession and secured a large private practice in a rural neighborhood through much hard labor and constant riding over the country.
