Fred A. Heimstra (b. 1915, Chicago, Illinois-d. Nov. 1, 1996), U.S. Air Force officer, entered the U.S. Army in 1940 after finishing medical school. His early assignments included medical supply officer, flight surgeon, and base surgeon in Brazil, Hawaii, and other locations. Later, overseas assignments included commander of a USAF Hospital in the Philippines; staff surgeon, 13th Air Force; and commander, a USAF Hospital in Japan. After various other assignments in the U.S. during the 1960s, including as director, Plans and Hospitalization, in the Office of the Surgeon General, he retired in 1972.
