Steven Pecchia-Bekkum has worked in film and video education since 1991 when he received Associate of Science degrees in filmmaking and video production from Minneapolis Community and Technical College. He graduated from Metropolitan State University in St. Paul, Minnesota in 1997 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in liberal arts with an emphasis in translating literary works into film. In 2002 he earned his Master of Fine Arts degree in film from the University of Utah. In addition to his years teaching production, animation and screenwriting classes at the University of Utah, Pecchia-Bekkum has taught film studies at Weber State University and mentored young filmmakers at Salt Lake City's Spy Hop productions. In 2011 he began designing the Film Department's new "Sound for Film and Video" course based on years of experience in production and post-production sound.

Steven Pecchia-Bekkum has written and directed several films, most notably Walking in the Valley of the Gods (2003), which was an official selection of the Anchorage International Film Festival, the Hollywood DV Film Festival, the Edgeworks Film Festival and the Utah Short Film & Video Festival.
