Charlotte-Mecklenburg Community Relations Committee.
Established 1961 by Charlotte, N.C. mayor Stanford Brookshire as the Mayor's Community Relations Committee. The committee initially sought to ease racial tensions and gradually implement desegregation in Charlotte, N.C. Name changed in 1969 to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Community Relations Committee to reflect broader membership.
An earlier body, the Mayor's Friendly Relations Committee, established in 1960, by mayor James S. Smith, served a similar purpose.
