The Kansas Board of State Centennial Managers was created in 1874 with the Governor's appointment of five persons to act in connection with the United States Centennial Commission, which organized the 100th anniversary celebrations of independence of the United States in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The State Board of Centennial Managers was increased to nine members in 1876.
