Loebel, Adolf, 1895-1984

Adolf Loebl was born in Vinita, Romania on April 7, 1895. He married Sofie (possibly called Suse) Billig of Munich and they had two daughters, Ellen and Hannelore. The family lived in Karlsruhe.

He and his family survived the Holocaust in hiding in Karlsruhe. From 1945 he was president of the Jewish community of Heidelberg. In 1949 he attended the Heidelberg Conference on the future of the Jews in Germany that was held under the auspices of the United States Military Government. In 1952 Adolf, Sofie and Hannelore Loebel immigrated to the United States. After immigration he changed the spelling of his surname to Loebel. Adolf Loebel died in November 1984 in Cedarhurst, New York.
