Hide Profile

Clark County Economic Opportunity Board was the legal body in the greater Las Vegas-Clark County Region to receive and administer federal funds as part of the Johnson Administration's War on Poverty Program. Funding was used for social welfare, education, health, and community action programs. From 1965 until funds began to dry up in the early 1970's, CCEOB disbursed funds to organizations such as Head Start, Operation Independence, Migrant Education & Health, and Youth Corps. The collection documents local grassroots efforts in the War on Poverty during the peak of social legislation passed during the Great Society Years of the mid-sixties. Harvey Dondero was the chairman of the Clark County Economic Opportunity Board for its entire history.
