The Proclamation of 1763 authorized the British governors of Quebec and East and West Florida to grant land to reduced officers and soldiers who had served in North America during the French and Indian War. The men, who received property without quitrents for ten years, were required to reside in the colonies where the grants were made and to apply for the land personally.
