Major Frank J. North was organizer and commander of the Pawnee Scouts, a United States Army Unit made up of volunteer Pawnee Indians from Nebraska. His younger brother, Luther North, served as a captain in the Unit. From 1865 to 1877, the Norths and the Pawnee Scouts served in Nebraska, Kansas, and Wyoming.
