Hide Profile

Elizabeth Word (Mrs. Samuel L.) Chunn (1820-1894) was born in South Carolina but lived most of her life in Cassville, GA. Her husband farmed their property and did some real estate transactions in Georgia and other states before his death in 1863. Their only child, William Augustus Chunn (1840-1921), served in the 40th Regt. GA Vols. as well as the 1st Regt GA State Troops and participated in the Vicksburg Campaign before returning to raise a family in Cass (later Bartow) Co., GA.

Some of Mrs. Chunn's numerous correspondents were: her sister Sarah Word Hance, who still lived in their native Laurensville, SC; Sarah (Sally) Hance, SWH's daughter-in-law; Eugenia E. Hance Crews, SWH's daughter; Sallie Elizabeth Crews Bolt, SWH's granddaughter; Annette (Nettie) Patton, a cousin; Emily E. P. Walden, possibly a Patton cousin; and Jane E. Wells, probably a cousin.
