R. Douglas Aitken and George W. Gale served as medical missionaries in South Africa. Dr. Aitken served for 37 years at the Donald Fraser Hospital in Sibasa and Dr. Gale served for 8 years in Natal, 1928-1936. They decided to collaborate on writing a history of medical missions in South Africa. They invited doctors who served in the country to send reports on the hospitals which they had begun for inclusion in their work. Much valuable documentation was collected, but both doctors passed away before the actual writing of the book was begun.
