Biographical Note

Donald Webster Cory (1913-1986, also known as Donald Sagarin) wrote The Homosexual in America (1951), a book regarded as one of the primary influences on the early gay rights movement. In the early 1950s, Cory also operated the mail-order Cory Book Service, which marketed books of interest to the gay and lesbian community. Later in his life, he became critical of, and was in turn repudiated by, the gay and lesbian movement.
