Harvey, A. McGehee (Abner McGehee), 1911-1998
Variant namesLeRoy H. Harvey (1911-1998) collected grasses in the United States and Mexico, with a focus on New World Eragrostis. He received his bachelor's degree from the College of Education at Western Michigan in 1936. He went on to earn his master's at Michigan University. When he was pursuing his Ph.D., he was drafted into the army. Harvey published a book entitled, "Eragrostis in North and Middle America," in 1948. Harvey worked for the University of Montana, and upon his retirement he moved to Maryland and worked during the 1970s and 1980s at the U.S. National Herbarium. Harvey was curator of the University of Montana herbarium for 30 years (1946-1977). In 1977, Harvey retired from the University of Montana and accepted an honorary position at the Smithsonian Institution.
