Darling, Henry W.

Henry W. Darling was born in Edinburgh, Scotland on May 27, 1847. In 1862 he moved to Canada with his parents and lived there until 1891. Mr. Darling married Helen Ritchie, and had eight children : Jessie (married to Arthur W. Henshaw), Elsie (married to Robert F. Coggeshall), Louise (married to Edward O. Warner), Henrietta Gretchen, Henry Maurice, Nelson Jarvie, and Alan Graeme. Mr. Darling died on September 6, 1933 after a brief illness.

During his residence in Canada, Darling was involved in various wholesale trades and businesses. In 1891 Darling moved to New York and accepted a position in the Edison General Electric Company which merged with Thompson - Houston Companies to form General Electric in 1892. In order to be near the new company, Darling relocated to Schenectady in that year. He became assistant treasurer in 1893 and treasurer the next year, a position that he held until his retirement in 1924. At that time the board of directors at G.E. made him a vice-president and gave him the title of Treasurer-Emeritus.
