Williams, Worthington B., 1815-1891
Variant namesWorthington B. Williams (1815-1891) was born in New York City and raised in Poughkeepsie. In 1836, he came to Putnam County, Indiana, and began farming on several hundred acres of land owned by his father, Josiah, near Putnamville. In 1837 he married Lydia A.L. Reed, the daughter of Rev. Isaac Reed. The Williamses had eleven children.
The Reverend Isaac Reed (1788-1858) was born in Granville, New York, and attended theology school in New York and Connecticut. In October 1818 he was ordained a Presbyterian minister in Mercer County, Kentucky. In December 1819 he married Elinor Young. Reed served Presbyterian churches in Indiana, Illinois, and Ohio during his ministry. Reed died in Illinois in 1858.
Josiah C. Williams (ca. 1839-1900) enlisted in the Union army in September 1861 and was named a 2nd lieutenant in the 27th Indiana regiment. In November 1862 he was promoted to captain in company C of the 27th Indiana, where he served until he resigned in October 1864. Williams farmed with his father after the war then moved to Neosho, Missouri.
