Frances Paul De Germain, aka, Shah-nah-Xee Nahn-ya-ahyi, was born April 14, 1924 to William Lewis Paul (1885-1997) and Frances Lackey Paul (1890-1970). William Lewis Paul was a Native lawyer known for his prolific writing and Native rights work, including the right to vote and significant contributions toward the Alaska Native Land Claims Act of 1971. Frances Lackey Paul was a teacher in Alaska Native Schools during the 1940s. An extensive collection of their papers is held at the University of Washington Libraries.
