Robert Y. Sigworth graduated from the Pennsylvania State College in 1919. He became supervisor of utilities at the college.

Robert Young Sigworth was born August 13, 1893 in Leper, Clarion County, Pa. He received a bachelor's degree in 1919 and the master's mechanical engineer degree in 1924, both from the Pennsylvania State College. Sigworth joined the Department of Buildings and Grounds in 1920 and worked there until 1955 when he retired as Supervisor of Utilities of the University. After retirement, he became involved in the Centre County Genealogical Society and wrote several family histories, which date back prior to the Revolutionary War. Sigworth was a member of Pennsylvania Registered Professional Engineers since 1945, a member of Who's Who in Engineering from 1948 to 1956, a life member of the National District Energy Association, and a member of the State College Water Authority. Known as "Father of Penn State's Power Plant," he designed utility systems and directed development and growth of many buildings and projects. He was instrumental in the synchronization of many utility services between the university and the borough of State College. Sigworth wrote a number of historical pieces on the early utility systems of State College and Pennsylvania State University. He died in State College at the age of 104 on July 25, 1998.
