Thomas P. Parkinson was a journalist who became an arena manager. He began his career in the touring entertainment industry as an editor at Amusement Business magazine.

He went on to manage the Assembly Hall at the University of Illinois and became the first university facility manager to serve as president of the International Association of Assembly Managers. Parkinson also worked with Charles Philip Fox to document the history of the circus, in a book, The Circus in America.
