Edward Norphlet Brown, Sr. was born in 1829 in Warren County, Ga. He graduated from Franklin College, Ga. in 1854 and became a teacher. During the Civil War he served as quartermaster of the 45th Alabama Inf. and surrendered to Sherman at Greensboro, N.C. After the war he represented Russell County in the Ala. Legislature, 1880-1882 and 1894-1895.
