Karen du Pont Farquhar is the great-granddaughter of T. Coleman du Pont, president of E.I. du Pont de Nemours & Company in the early 20th century. She inherited a small group of family papers from the Victor Marie du Pont branch of the du Pont family. The collection represents three generations: Charles Irénée. du Pont (1797-1869), his children Charles Irénée du Pont (1830-1873) and Mary Van Dyke du Pont (1826-1909), his cousin and daughter-in-law Mary Sophie du Pont (1834-1869), and his granddaughter, Victorine Antoinette du Pont (1865-1876). The bulk of the collection pertains to Mary Van Dyke du Pont . She acted as custodian of her orphaned niece Victorine from 1873 to 1876.). Mary Van Dyke du Pont also corresponded with Sophie Madeline Du Pont (1810-1888), who was her aunt by marriage.
