Roy Carpenter was born 5 March 1912 near Waco, Texas and retired to San Angelo in 1973. He was known for his love of the outdoors and history. Mountain climbing was a favorite hobby. He climbed Guadalupe Peak about forty times, the last time at age 85. He always had a camera around his neck. He married his high school sweetheart, Lois Cooper in 1932. He was a machinist by trade and taught shop and math in Texas and New Mexico. He died 24 June 1997 in San Angelo.
