Joe M. Towns, Jr., a multitalented musican and athlete, was a student at the University of Georgia from 1930 until his graduation in 1934. Young Joe's numerous activities included being a championship golfer and a member of the UGA track team and school band. Joe was also active in the Pi Kappa Phi fraternity. After graduation, Joe was employed for many years with General Motors. In addition, he was a member of the Conyers Board of Education and also served that city as a councilman and mayor. On top of that, Joe played in a band called "Sorta Forty".
