Organized in Springfield, Ill., in 1892 to secure representation for Sangamon County women at the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago; an auxiliary of the Illinois Woman's Exposition Board.
In April, 1893, the Sangamon County Columbian Exposition Club formed a committee to collect sketches of the lives of Illinois' pioneer women. After the Fair was over, the Club disbanded and gave the sketches it had collected to the Illinois State Historical Library. Librarian Josephine P. Cleveland apparently bound most of them into a volume whose title is as given above.
