Samuel Wright moved to Macon County, Alabama, from Georgia in 1836. His children and grandchildren farmed in Macon and Lee Counties. John Peavy Wright, his grandson, was born in Lee County, Alabama, in 1898. After graduating with a B.S. degree from Alabama Polytechnic Institute, he received a Ph. D. in political science from Harvard. He twice ran unsucessfully for the Alabama Legislature, and in his later years worked on local history and genealogy.
