Vachel Lindsay, renown for his musical style and his troubadour ways, visited his relatives in Kentucky twice according to South.
South's mother and Lindsay's aunt, Eudora South, ran the Excelsior Collegiate Institute, outside of Frankfort, Kentucky. In his first book, A HANDY GUIDE FOR BEGGARS, Lindsay himself discusses reading one of his poems at the Institute's commencement in 1906. He came back several years later when the Institute had been closed and his aunt had died, stopping to visit his cousin after a lecture tour of Kentucky colleges.
