Andrew Nelson Caudell (1872-1936), orthopterist, was born August 18th in Indianapolis and spent his childhood on a his parent's farm in Oklahoma. He studied entomology at Oklahoma Agricultural College. He worked on the Gypsy Moth Project in Massachusetts before working for the USDA. He joined the Division of Insects of the United States Department of Agriculture in 1898. He remained with the Department until his death and, also while there, served as custodian of the Orthoptera collection of the Division of Insects of the United States National Museum.
