Harold Hirsch, a native of Portland, Oregon, graduated from Dartmouth College in 1929. He served as president of Portland-based White Stag Manufacturing Company from the 1930s to 1972, implementing production and national distribution of innovative outdoor and sport clothing. He was active in numerous civic organizations, including the Japanese Garden Society and Nature Conservancy. He was a Reed College trustee (1956-1990) and served as president of the Port of Portland. He died July 16, 1990 in Portland. Harold Hirsch Drive on the Oregon Coast is named in his honor.
