George L. Stuart, Jr. was born in 1946 in Orlando, Fla. After receiving a degree in economics and political science from the University of Florida and an M.B.A from Harvard, he was elected Orlando city commissioner for district 2 in 1972. Later he served 10 years in the Florida Senate and, in 1990, ran unsuccessfully for Governor of Florida. This was followed by service in government agencies, private enterprise, and various social, education, and service organizations.
