Richard Schwarzchild was born in N.Y. on Nov. 29, 1924 and enlisted in the Army at New York City, N.Y. on Feb. 18, 1943. At the time of his enlistment, he was working as a furrier. Schwarzchild joined the 10th Mountain Division at Camp Hale, Colo. where he was assigned to Company F of the 90th Infantry Regiment. He later served with Company H, 86th Infantry Regiment, and finally with Company K of the 85th Infantry Regiment. Schwarzchild was also stationed at Camp Swift, Tex. and engaged in combat operations in Italy.
