Lovering, Joseph S. (Joseph Samuel), 1796-1881
Variant namesJoseph S. Lovering began his business career as a grocer at 2nd and Pine Sts., Philadelphia. Between 1836 and 1866 Lovering operated the Sugar Refinery, one of the largest sugar refineries in the world, known for its steam process. In 1866 Lovering sold the refinery to McKean, Newhall & Borie.
