Ritter family.

Ezra and Mary Church Ritter married in Barnardston, Massachusetts in 1820 and moved to New Berlin, New York where their five sons were born. Two of these sons, Seneca Dwight Ritter and Horatio Ritter, left New York State with their families circa 1854 to homestead in Hampden, Wisc. Horatio and Leonora Eason Ritter, married December 23, 1847 in Orville, New York, raised five children on their Hampden homestead. Their third child, William Emerson Ritter, became a professor of zoology at the University of California and founded the Scripps Institution of Oceanography in 1903.
