Moses Franklin Farnsworth (b. 1834) was born in Edinburgh, Indiana, to Reuben Farnsworth and Mary Daymon. Starting at the age of nine, Farnsworth worked in the mercantile business and over the next nine years became a proficient salesman and bookeeper. He was first exposed to Mormonism in 1851 by his brother Stephen and his sister Laura. Skeptical at first, Moses moved to Salt Lake City, Utah and was baptized into the church in 1854. He was a 3rd lieutenant in the Walker Indian War and a 1st lieutenant in the Nauvoo Legion. A faithful servant to the church, Farnsworth practiced polygamy, having five wives and thirty children; was a teacher, a priest and elder, a member of the Seventy, and a High Priest; served on two missions to England; helped settle Kanab; and was the recorder at the Saint George and Manti Temples. Additionally, in 1897 he published a genealogical study of his family titled, "Farnsworth Memorial."
