United Steelworkers of America. Contract Dept.
The Contract Department of the United Steelworkers of America began in the 1940s to process negotiated contracts, and to address problems with negotiated benefits. On June 1, 1968, it merged with the Research Department to form the Research-Contract Department. The two departments later separated in 1978, retaining their original names. In 1987, the Research Department, the Contract Department, and the Insurance, Pension and Unemployment Benefits Department were merged into the Pension, Insurance and Research Department.
