Illinois State Chamber of Commerce. Education Dept.
Department in the state organization, with Robert Beckwith as the manager, that researched and supported a State Board of Education with appointed, rather than elected members. Beckwith served as chairman of the Conference on State Board of Education and Appointive Superintendent for several years prior to the 1969 Constitutional Convention that created the changes in the governance of elementary and secondary education.
