Jillson, Willard Rouse, 1890-1975
Variant namesWillard Rouse Jillson, geologist, was born in Syracuse, New York, May 28, 1890. He moved to Kentucky in 1917 and served as the state geologist from 1919-1932. Known as a prolific writer, he wrote on such subjects as paleontology, mining, regional history, biography, and history of Kentucky literature. He produced over sixty books and over 500 articles, brochures, and pamphlets. Jillson died Oct. 5, 1975, and was buried in Frankfort Cemetery in Kentucky.
