The Illinois Centennial Commission was created by joint resolution of General Assembly in 1913. It was composed of five members each from House and Senate, three representatives of University of Illinois and two representatives of Illinois Historical Society. Its duty was to prepare plans for celebration of Illinois' centennial anniversary as a state in 1918 (L.1913, p. 619). In 1915 it further was charged with arranging for compilation of commemorative history of state. It ceased activity in 1919 at which time it made final report of actions and expenditures to General Assembly.
