Leroy A. Lewis was the son of an American citizen who was born in Canada in 1911. He grew up with his family on a farm near Delta, Colo. Lewis joined the 10th Mountain Division at Camp Hale, Colo. where he was assigned to Headquarters of the 10th Mountain Division in the 710th Mountain Ordinance Company. He also served at Camp Swift, Tex. before being sent to Italy. Lewis was awarded a Bronze Star medal for his actions in the Apennines during the spring of 1945. While with the 10th Mountain Division he attained the rank of Captain and later retired from the Army as a Lieutenant Colonel. Lewis died in Mesa, Ariz. in 1992.
