Marie Elizabeth (1890-1980) and Anne Louise (1894-1978) Reddy were the elder daughters of William James Reddy and Susan Elizabeth Handle. They were both born in Savannah. Marie earned a B.A. in education from the University of Georgia and an M.A. in education from Columbia University. Anne graduated with a B.S. from Georgia State College for Women and an M.A. in education from Columbia University. Both women were teachers. Anne was the fifth grade teacher and lower school principal at the Pape School and Savannah Country Day School for 42 years. She then served as principal of St. Paul's Lutheran Church School. Marie spent 23 years teaching first grade at the Montgomery Street School (the old St. Patrick's School) and 27 years at Oglethorpe Ave. School. After she retired from Oglethorpe, she went back to work teaching first grade at St. Paul's Lutheran Church School. The two sisters resided together and were active in many community organizations. The two shared many interests, particularly bird watching, and both were members of the Savannah Audubon Society. Marie was interested in and wrote poetry. She was a member of the Poetry Society. She was also interested in genealogy and was a Girl Scout leader for many years. Marie died on August 20, 1980 in Hilton Head, South Carolina at the age of 90. Both sisters are buried in Bonaventure Cemetery in Savannah.
