"As of the 2005 season the University of Georgia (UGA) football program has won five national championships, played in eighteen different bowl games (more than any other program in the country), won eleven Southeastern Conference (SEC) titles, and produced two Heisman Trophy winners. Some of the brightest stars in college football history have worn a Bulldogs uniform, including the quarterback Fran Tarkenton, who went on to a professional career in the National Football League (NFL) and induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, and the Heisman Trophy-winning running backs Frank Sinkwich (who won in 1942) and Herschel Walker (who won in 1982). Additionally, Georgia's home field, Sanford Stadium, named for educator Steadman V. Sanford, ranks among college football's most famed venues; games in the stadium are commonly said to be played "between the hedges," a reference to the shrubbery that surrounds the playing field."--"UGA Football" from the New Georgia Encyclopedia, http://www.georgiaencyclopedia.org/nge/Article.jsp?id=h-1994&sug=y (Accessed November 9, 2009)

"Since fielding its first football squad in 1892, Georgia Tech's program has been led by some of college football's most successful coaches, including John Heisman (1904-19), William Alexander (1920-44), Bobby Dodd (1945-66), and Bobby Ross (1987-91). (...) Georgia Tech won national championships in 1917, 1928, 1952, and 1990. The Yellow Jackets also have won championships in four different conferences, including three in the old Southern Conference, five in the Southeastern Conference, and two as part of their current membership in the Atlantic Coast Conference. As of the 2005 season the Yellow Jackets also rank among the top ten National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) programs in bowl game wins (twenty-two) and winning percentage (0.667, 22-11)."--"Georgia Tech Football" from the New Georgia Encyclopedia, http://www.georgiaencyclopedia.org/nge/Article.jsp?id=h-1995&sug=y (Accessed November 9, 2009)
