John McBryde, Sr., son of Duncan McBryde, Sr. and Mary Campbell, was born July 1796 in Richmond County, North Carolina. He married Mary McCall (b.1800) in South Carolina, and they moved to Pike County, Alabama between 1829 and 1832. They had six children: Ferdinand (1828-?), Sarah A. (1829-1905), John Jr. (1832-1899), Daniel (ca.1833-?), Alexander (1835-1904), and Neil C. (1838-1863). Sarah A. McBryde, also called Sallie, was the recipient of many of these letters. She never married and lived in Rose Hill, Covington County, Ala. John Jr., who moved to Prattville in 1888, had six children: Minnie E. (born before 1880, died after 1940), Neil M., John W., Augustus J., Mary I., and Sarah E. McBryde. Alexander had three children: Daniel Houston (1871-1947), Mary Eudorah (Mollie) (1873-1906), and Emma L. McBryde (1875-1898).
