Ellsworth Davis served on the U.S.S. Florida as a signal officer, official uniform inspector and flag lieutenant. He often wrote letters to his family in Connecticut, including his mother and father, Mr. and Mrs. Frederick W. Davis, and his brother Roger. During the U.S. occupation of Vera Cruz, Mexico in April 1914, Davis led a company onshore and overtook the town’s postal service building. In addition to his service on the U.S.S. Florida, Davis served in the Mediterranean and off of the U.S. Atlantic Coast on the Brooklyn and the Fairfax.
