Merton Alva Hill was born November 1, 1895 in Tacoma, WA. Mr. Hill was graduated from Stadium Hill School and Washington State College. After serving in the U.S. Army during World War I, he was honorably discharged. In the 1920's and 1930's, he was employed by the Pierce County Poor Farm and the Washington State Department of Agriculture. He went to work for the Olympia Canning Company as their fruit buyer in 1935. He was employed by them until 1961. He enjoyed writing and had feature articles published in the Olympian's Totem magazine. The Totem was a supplemental magazine to the Olympian newspaper. He may have had articles published in several other publications such as the Marian Helpers Bulletin. He was active in many civic organizations. In 1922 he married Danella Sanderson and they had two children. On the occasion of their 60th anniversary, an article was written about the longevity of their marriage. Mrs. Hill passed away in May 1982. Mr. Hill passed away on Feb. 3, 1989 in Olympia, WA.
