George P. Schubert was born in 1883 in Houghton, Michigan. His initial schooling took place in Osceola Township at Mason. Later he attended grade school and high school in Lake Linden before enrolling at the Michigan College of Mines (now Michigan Technological University). He received his engineer of mines degree from the college and began a teaching career at the College, which, on his resignation, totaled 29 years. He was the head of the Civil Engineering Department when he resigned in 1928 to become superintendent of the Michigan Smelter. In the course of his career he also served as a mining engineer with Anaconda, Phelps Dodge, and Kennecott Copper. In 1946 he rejoined the staff of the College and was in charge of the drawing and shops section of the Mechanical Engineering Department. Professor Schubert retired with the rank of Professor Emeritus in 1952. He passed away in 1964.
