Pastorius, Francis Daniel, 1651-1719
Variant namesFrancis Daniel Pastorius (1651-1719) was a German settler of Colonial Pennsylvania. As the agent for the Frankfort Land Company, he came to Philadelphia in 1683 to purchase land tracts for German settlers. This land was later known as Germantown. In 1708, John Henry Sprogel attempted to dispossess many of the German settlers. Pastorious settled the legal dispute in favor of the settlers.
